Sean Farrell has watched his team's last two games from the sidelines and many thought they had found the reason for his withdrawal from the lineup.
According to them, the Canadiens may not want to give the young man his performance bonus if he plays in 5 games in the big league this season.
This reason, however, has been dismissed by several people, including TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie. According to him, it's not a $25,000 bonus that is tying Martin St-Louis' hands, but rather the development of the young man.
»It's a bonus that will be counted against the salary cap next year, but you're not going to lose sleep over $25,000 one way or another. It is expected Farrell will play the Wednesday game and probably the Thursday one.» - Renaud Lavoie
With the departures of Rafael Harvey-Pinard and Jesse Ylonen to Laval, it is now almost certain that Farrell will play one or even both of the last games of the season. Lavoie also added about the young forward, mentioning that he has really evolved since joining the club at the end of March.
»I'll tell you something I noticed at practice today: between the Sean Farrell who arrived with the Canadiens about ten days ago and Sean Farrell today, there has already been a huge evolution. Today at practice, I felt he was confident with the puck, active, and making plays. I understood why they decided to bring him up to the Montreal Canadiens right away.» Renaud Lavoie
Let's be honest, if a small bonus of $25,000 is causing problems for the organization, the situation for the Canadiens next season is more dramatic than we think. The organization will do what's best for Farrell, and if that means watching the game from the sidelines in order to analyze him, then so be it!
