Sad last minute announcement: the Canadiens announced the death of former 8th overall pick Dave Gardner
During the last few minutes, the Montreal Canadiens organization released a sad official statement to announce the passing of a former player of the organization.
"The Canadiens are saddened to learn of the passing of Dave Gardner.
The organization would like to offer its most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones."

Gardner, who was 70 years old, was a former 8th overall pick of the Canadiens (first round) in 1972.
MONTREAL - It is with great sadness that the Club de hockey Canadien has learned of the passing of Dave Gardner, member of the 1972-73 and 1973-74 editions.
Born on August 23, 1952 in Toronto, he was a prolific young player with the Toronto Marlboros. Gardner was the eighth player selected in the 1972 NHL Draft by the Canadiens. He played with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs in 1972-73, recording 72 points in 66 games before being called up by the Canadiens.
In addition to the Canadiens, he also played for St. Louis, California, Cleveland and Philadelphia before ending his career in Europe.
Dave was the son of Cal Gardner, a former NHL player and the brother of Paul Gardner, also a former NHL player.
Dave Gardner was 70.
