Present as a guest on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, Martin St. Louis, once again amazed the hockey world with his outspokenness.

It's been a long time since we've heard from him, but it was really good to hear him again.

He reminded us how brilliant, down-to-earth, and perfectly in tune with the reality of his players he is.

One question particularly caught our attention and that of many fans across the NHL.

Here's the excerpt, as reported in La Presse. It is indeed on a question that may irritate some of his players that the Quebecer believes he needs to improve.

"I'm not the best at rolling the bench," he admitted when talking about situations where the game is focused on special units. "However, I am improving and I want to continue to improve."

St. Louis also confessed to sometimes being too invested in the game. He can thus lose track of his changes.

He's talking here about the distribution of playing time, and St. Louis says he wants to improve to better distribute the minutes.

From this, we understand that he is aware that giving 22-23 minutes to a Nick Suzuki is probably too much. Conversely, giving 4 to 6 minutes to his fourth-line players is probably not enough and can frustrate them at times.

St. Louis is aware of this and it's something he wants to address.

It's really rare to see an NHL coach put it so plainly, but we love it.

We highly recommend listening:
