Former Canadiens defenseman Nathan Beaulieu was traded by the Winnipeg Jets to the Pittsburgh Penguins at the trade deadline for a seventh round pick in 2022.

Let's just say that this is a far cry from the defenseman who was once considered one of the Habs' top prospects, when you see the price tag for his services. And believe it or not, it gets worse.

Marco Normandin of Habsolumentfan.com mentions that with a little digging, it's possible to find out what the conditions are for the Jets to get their hands on the seventh round pick in question.

According to what the trade site CapFriendly reports, in order for the Jets to receive the 7th round pick, the Penguins will have to make it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals.

The odds are pretty good under the circumstances, as Sidney Crosby's gang has been among the best teams in the NHL for some time. But there is another condition, perhaps less plausible this one

Beaulieu will have to have played at least 50% of his team's games in the playoffs, otherwise, the Jets will get nothing at all.

All these conditions, to perhaps receive a distant seventh round pick... I wish I could have been there to witness the negotiations!

With such conditions, there is a very good chance that the former Habs defenseman was literally traded for absolutely nothing. This is quite incredible considering that Beaulieu was a first round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2011.

Nathan Beaulieu had his best NHL season with the CH in 2016-2017, where he had 28 points in 74 games. At the end of that season, Marc Bergevin sent him to Buffalo with a third round pick.
