Today, ladies and gentlemen, the Montreal Canadiens' rookies officially report for the organization's 2023 training camp!

Today is medical and physical testing day in Brossard.

There are a lot of players to keep an eye on, a lot of players we were extremely anxious to see, but one in particular is missing.

There's a very good reason for this, however, as Nicolas Cloutier reports.

"No surprise here as he won't be at rookie camp, but Adam Engstrom won't be at Canadiens camp this season.

Engstrom confirmed it to me himself. He'll have an important role in Rögle's top 4 in Sweden."

"So one last season in Sweden and then we can expect him to sign his entry-level contract with the Canadiens."

In fact, his season in Sweden starts tomorrow! Engstrom has an excellent reason to be away, he wants to concentrate on his season and that makes perfect sense.

Remember that Adam Engstrom was one of the stars of the Canadiens' development camp a few weeks ago, along with Lane Hutson.

Engstrom, 19, is a defenseman drafted in the 3rd round by Montreal in 2022, but who is developing extremely well and extremely quickly.

He's likely to be one of the best defensemen in Sweden's top league, Rogle. A name to keep an eye on this season, he could certainly become a very interesting addition for Kent Hughes, Jeff Gorton and Martin St-Louis.

Details to follow.
