While some experts say Montembeault should be given the number one spot, Allen has been there in his last few games.
Without him, the Habs would have probably lost both games out west and his teammates owe him a debt of gratitude for his accomplishments. In the absence of Carey Price, the Habs really need a good performance from their goaltenders for the team to have any chance of winning.
But despite the fact that Allen signed a contract extension before the season started, a reputable tipster believes that Kent Hughes could very well use Jake Allen in a potential trade.
While on BPM, Tony Marinaro told host Jean-Charles Lajoie that he wouldn't be surprised if Allen was traded by the trade deadline.
Marinaro also said that the way he guarded goals against the Flames and Kraken during the Western trip, some teams looking for an experienced goalie might be tempted to give Kent Hughes a quick call.
However, if the Habs' GM is tempted to let go of his number one goalie, he will have to acquire another goalie because despite some good performances this year, Samuel Montembeault is not quite ready to assume the number one goalie position in Montreal.
Under the circumstances, it will take a truly exceptional comeback for Kent Hughes to let Jake Allen go, but since the ex-player agent has been at the helm of the Habs, we are never safe from a surprise.
It would be a big trade in any case.
