With the trade deadline fast approaching, it's no surprise to see the stands filling up with NHL scouts. The teams want to be well prepared for the decisive day.

As mentioned by Adrian Dater, beat reporter for the Colorado Avalanche, the Canadiens sent scouts to the Avalanche game against the Stars on Tuesday night.

We remember that Habs defender Jeff Petry was recently linked to the Texas team. At the beginning of February, TSN insider Pierre LeBrun mentioned that the Dallas Stars could be very interested in the Habs defender for a very specific reason, namely John Klingberg. In the event that he leaves the team, Petry would then be the dream replacement.

If the Stars and the Habs do decide to dance and Petry is involved, Kent Hughes will have no choice but to take a salary. To date, Jim Nill only has around $1 million under the cap and could not fully take Petry's salary without exceeding the cap. Are scouts estimating the best salary dump possible for the Stars?

In any case, talks seems to have begun to possibly build a trade between Montreal and Dallas.

Another possibility is that the Habs simply asked that we analyze the game of the Stars, who will face Montreal on March 17. However, it's a bit early to do that, so we can predict that Montreal wanted to assess one or more players...
