Following the terrible injury suffered by Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine tonight, many fear the worst.

Is his season over? Can we hope it's less serious than expected? An expert has just weighed in.

Dr. Harjas Grewal gives his opinion on the length of Patrik Laine's absence

Here's his post.

«The concerns regarding Laine are as follows:

- ACL tear (season-ending)

- MCL tear (depends on the grade)

- Meniscus tear (4-6 weeks if trimmed, 4+ months if repaired)

- Bone bruise (weekly re-evaluation)

It could be one, multiple, or all of the above injuries.

The exam is useful, but tomorrow's MRI will clarify everything.»

- Dr. Harjas Grewal

This will definitely be a situation to monitor, but with the footage circulating, I'm finding it hard to imagine that Patrik Laine could be back at 100% in a few weeks (though I sincerely hope he can).

Let's also remember that the Montreal Canadiens quickly released an official statement regarding Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher, confirming the end of their night's work:

Laine was playing on a line with Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook. His absence will obviously create a significant gap in Martin St-Louis' top-six forwards.

We are closely monitoring every development in this situation. More details to follow.
