A young offensive defenseman well known to Montreal Canadiens fans is reportedly on the verge of returning home, according to a Swedish journalist.

Mattias Norlinder, who is known to fans as a defenseman who was very promising a few years ago but never managed to adapt to North American hockey, has faced difficult times in the AHL. He had an excellent 2023 training camp with the Montreal Canadiens but had a 2023-24 season to forget with the Laval Rocket.

Once compared to Nicklas Lidstrom by a Swedish journalist, Norlinder has just concluded another difficult season with the Canadiens' farm team.

Norlinder, 24, has amassed a meager 9 points in 50 games, while posting a negative differential of -14. Ouch.

Mattias Norlinder returning home to Sweden?

This has been suggested as a serious possibility by journalist Johan Svensson from the media outlet Expressen.

«In fact, according to Svensson, it would be MoDo Hockey, a team Norlinder has previously played for, that wants to bring him back into their uniform. [...]

And apparently, it's creating quite a buzz over there to the point where the official SHL account, the league in which MoDo plays, mentioned the possibility of Norlinder arriving in town via their X account.» - Félix Forget

Here is the official post in question, coming directly from the SHL:

To be continued!

In any case, we simply wish Norlinder success for the rest of his career, as he is a very good kid.
