We have some news following the trade of Patrik Laine to the Montreal Canadiens.

We are obviously very happy with this acquisition, especially since Laine is only 26 years old, and we feel he could truly become a core part of the Habs long term, but there is one thing we shouldn't forget.

Patrik Laine's current contract ends in the summer of 2026.

This means that, technically, the 6-foot-5 Finnish forward could become a free agent in less than two years.

But, could he sign a new contract with the Montreal Canadiens? This is precisely the topic addressed by journalist Arpon Basu.

Patrik Laine could sign a new contract with the Montreal Canadiens

The door definitely seems to be open, and we love it!

«In Laine's case, if things work out in Montreal, if he plays well for the Canadiens and he likes being in Montreal, I think they would consider bringing him back... His main reason for being in Montreal is to allow the group to compete while waiting for Ivan Demidov, Michael Hage, Joshua Roy, Owen Beck, Lane Hutson, David Reinbacher...»

So, this will be a case to watch over the next two years, a case that is obviously far from urgent for now, but I feel the decision will simply come down to Patrik Laine.

It will entirely depend on how he performs for the Canadiens over the next two seasons, and it will also depend on his willingness to commit here long term.

One thing is certain, we are extremely excited to see how things will go this season for Patrik Laine with the Habs, as he seems determined to prove his critics wrong and seems extremely happy to play in Montreal.

I don't know why, but I really feel that this is going to work out, and that he will be a Habs player for a long time. How about you?
