I specify the continent and not Montreal because, according to his own words, he is very open to playing in the AHL if needed.
In an interview with Sergey Demidov of the RG.org site, the 5th overall pick of the last amateur draft opened up this possibility if the Canadiens' management saw it as necessary.
Once again, these are very mature comments on his part. It's no surprise that the club's management was impressed by the young man, who seems to have a maturity beyond many players his age.
At the moment, it seems that Demidov's injury is a thing of the past, as he is playing in the Puchkov Tournament with the under-23 team. He even wears the captain's "C" during this competition.
The Canadiens' prospect has also started skating with his KHL team. He recently impressed in a preseason game against Sochi earlier this week. Once again, he showcased his full range of talents!
Demidov definitely seems ready to play in the KHL, especially with his performances in this current competition. But despite his success and talent, he is ready to take all the necessary steps. He has even mentioned being willing to play in the VHL (the KHL's minor league). However, few think this will be necessary in his case.
The fact is that Demidov is a player who is eager to learn and improve. This is very promising for a player of his caliber, as the hockey staff of the Montreal organization will be delighted to develop him.
Kent Hughes will have several options with Demidov as soon as his KHL season ends. He could either bring him directly to the big club or have him play a few games in Laval to adjust to the North American style. In either case, the young man will simply be happy to play hockey!
Kudos to Demidov, unlike Avalanche prospect Gulyayev who refused to play in the AHL.
Clearly, in Demidov's case, it's the opposite, and that's a very good thing.
Demidov is therefore ready to play for several teams, whether in the KHL, VHL, AHL, or NHL; he just wants to play hockey and improve.
