We have another transaction to announce. According to a report by the reputable Elliotte Friedman from Sportsnet, the highly promising forward Rutger McGroarty has been traded from the Winnipeg Jets to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Rutger McGroarty traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins

McGroarty and Patrik Laine were two names intensely linked to the Montreal Canadiens, so one might wonder if the Laine trade triggered the McGroarty deal.

In any case, this marks the second excellent forward traded this week in the NHL.

After Laine and McGroarty, will Martin Necas be next? Will Yaroslav Askarov be next?

In any event, this is a great move for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

McGroarty, aged 20, was the 14th overall pick in 2022 (1st round).

He is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward who recorded a solid 52 points in 36 games this season in the NCAA.

He played for the University of Michigan and is ready to make the jump to the NHL immediately.

Expect to see him in a Penguins uniform as early as October 2024.
