Canadiens Turn Their Back on Cayden Primeau Again, Opening the Door for Jakub Dobes as a Call-Up Option
The Montreal Canadiens have once again turned their back on Cayden Primeau.
Once again, it will be Samuel Montembeault in net for the team tonight against the Vegas Golden Knights, which makes perfect sense, but the decision to turn their back on Primeau goes back even further.
As reported by Félix Forget from DansLesCoulisses, Martin St-Louis seems completely unwilling to send Primeau into the mix anymore.
Kent Hughes will have to respond, and it really looks like young Jakub Dobes is becoming an option.
After all, Montembeault can't play the remaining 63 games of the regular season. (obviously)
Cayden Primeau has only played two periods in November
If the team no longer wants to play him, why keep him in Montreal?
«Once again, Primeau will be watching the game from the bench.. and when you look at his November, you start to think what is he really doing there..
Why? Because here's all of Primeau's ice time in November:
November 11, against the Sabres: 43:43, five goals allowed on 14 shots, pulled early in the third period.» - Félix Forget
And that's it!
It will be interesting to see what happens with the Canadiens goaltending over the next few weeks because clearly, they'll need to be careful not to overwork Montembeault, even if he's been playing extremely well lately.
When will Primeau get his next start? Will there even be one?
And if it goes just as badly again, will we finally see Connor Hughes or Jakub Dobes called up, given their phenomenal start to the season with the Laval Rocket?
We will undoubtedly have the answer by Christmas.
