In this humiliating defeat of the Montreal Canadiens against the New York Rangers yesterday, a scene involving Justin Barron and Jacob Trouba caught attention.

The Rangers' defenseman, known for his physical play often pushing the limits of legality, delivered a strong hit to Barron's head.

Watch the footage.

No penalty expected for Jacob Trouba, according to a Sportsnet journalist

Despite all the Canadiens players condemning the action, and despite Martin St-Louis also believing that the head was the point of contact, Sportsnet journalist Eric Engels stated the following:

Terrible to see Justin Barron take a hit like that and see him being helped off after also smacking his head on the ice. Scary.
Watching it in both fast and slow motion, though,

I don't expect Jacob Trouba to face any supplementary discipline for it.

-Eric Engels

Wow. So don't be surprised if Trouba gets cleared once again and walks away without any penalty.

Martin St-Louis and Nick Suzuki will certainly disagree, as well.

« Nick Suzuki on Trouba's hit on Justin Barron: 'I saw a replay; it looks like he made contact with his head. Obviously, JB goes down and doesn't look right. I guess the refs saw - all 4 said it was a clean hit but obviously we don't agree with that' »

And what do you think, does Jacob Trouba deserve a penalty?

More details to follow as the NHL's verdict is expected today, but remember, this isn't the first time Trouba has found himself in hot water for playing on the edge.
