This is the statement we were expecting, but unfortunately, it's really not the news we were hoping for.
There had been some rumors circulating about this, but it's now confirmed.
Guhle had to be urgently transported to the hospital last night due to the injury he sustained against the Winnipeg Jets at the end of the game.
He has since been discharged from the hospital.
This is indeed the worst-case scenario that seems to be coming true.
The Canadiens are announcing here an absence for "an indefinite period," but we can well guess that he won't be back on the ice anytime soon, unfortunately.
Tony Marinaro was right:
Kaiden Guhle was cut, and it must have been extremely painful.
Kent Hughes and the Canadiens now need to immediately switch to "solutions" mode to find a replacement for Guhle.
For now, the replacement is Jayden Struble, who was called up from the Laval Rocket this morning, but this might need to be better if the Canadiens want to make the playoffs.
A call-up for Logan Mailloux? An early start in the NHL for David Reinbacher? Another trade like the one for Alexandre Carrier?
There are options for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, but they will need to act quickly.
Details will follow.
