Appearing on the Cam and Strick podcast, a Montreal Canadiens forward complained about an issue in Quebec, and it's causing quite a stir today.
It's Michael Pezzetta, who complained about taxes in Quebec, sparking some debates on social media.
« It's not really a good idea to publicly complain about high taxes in Quebec while playing for the Montreal Canadiens... »
- HabsOnReddit
What bothers many, especially, is that he spoke "against" Montreal on a podcast recorded in the United States.
It gives the impression that he didn't know it would reach here, and some believe it's like he spoke "behind the back" of his adopted region.
Michael Pezzetta openly criticizes Quebec taxes compared to some U.S. markets
In short, you can form your own opinion. The clip is right here:
« Pezz was on the Cam and Strick Podcast, a U.S.-based hockey podcast. He talked about various topics, but there's one clip that's causing quite a reaction right now.
In fact, it's a discussion about the tax rate in Montreal that's at the heart of it all. The Canadiens forward was asked what he thinks about it, and his response is controversial:
''It's pretty crazy. We're taxed at 54%, plus the 4% escrow to agents.'' - Michael Pezzetta»

It's also worth mentioning that it irritates some fans to see Pezzetta complain like this, while earning an annual salary significantly higher than the average Quebecer, and while we all have to pay a lot of taxes.
« It feels a bit ''disconnected,'' according to some. [...]
And again, one might wonder how much he actually pays 54% of his salary in taxes. Most of the time, players (and especially their agents) manage to find ways to pay less in taxes. »

It's probably the first time an active Montreal Canadiens player has publicly complained so clearly about taxes in Quebec.
At the same time, it's not as if he's wrong.
Most people criticizing him today aren't necessarily criticizing what he said, but rather the way it was done.
And you, what is your opinion on this?
