Before I forget, I should mention right away that I got the idea for this article from Charles-Alexis Brisebois of DansLesCoulisses.
His article can be found here:
He's absolutely right, but unfortunately, I believe it will be the same story all season for Pezzetta.
Once a true fan favorite for the Montreal Canadiens, he seems to be nearing the end of his time with the organization.
Seeing him consistently left out, and that Martin St-Louis doesn't even seem to consider him an option on offense, already said a lot, but the final blow, for me, came in the last few moments.
I have nothing against Lucas Condotta, but seeing that he'll be in uniform tonight, ahead of Pezzetta, says a lot about the organization's intentions.
Good old Michael Pezzetta is clearly no longer in the plans-neither Martin St-Louis's nor Kent Hughes's.
We truly commend Pezzetta for conducting himself like a real professional in these circumstances, and we genuinely hope things work out for him elsewhere.
Clearly, that won't be in Montreal.
Michael Pezzetta, now 26, has played only three games this season (three games in which Martin St-Louis was almost forced to play him due to some unforeseen circumstances). He'll be a free agent this summer as his contract ends at the close of this season.
I'm almost 100% convinced he won't be back next season and will leave as an unrestricted free agent.
Unless waivers are an option?
In any case, it's a situation to keep an eye on, but once again tonight, Pezzetta will find his place in the stands. It can't be easy for him in the long run.
