What a night for the new Montreal Canadiens forward, Patrik Laine.

After announcing earlier in the day that he would be playing his first game with the Habs against the New York Islanders, he received a magical welcome from the Bell Centre crowd.

Then, the dream scenario unfolded as Laine scored his first goal with the Montreal Canadiens in his debut game!

What a moment!

A significant moment between Patrik Laine and the excellent Pierre Houde

We didn't get the chance to revisit it during the game, but it was absolutely worth revisiting this remarkable interview with Laine on RDS with the official play-by-play announcer.

«I feel good. A lil nervous, not gonna lie. It's been plenty of emotions the last day or so but I'm mostly excited to be back on the ice..I think it's just good nervous. When you feel like that, at least you know you care.»

-Patrik Laine

That little bit of nervousness paid off!

I love Laine's honesty. He then outright mentioned that he was tired of waiting and fed up with just practicing.

He wanted to play!

«It's been enough of extra skates and all that good stuff. I'm finally eager to get back out there. My body feels good, my mind is good. I'm just excited to be done with these chit chats, just drop the puck and let's go.»

- Patrik Laine in an RDS interview with Pierre Houde

I love his attitude!

After the game, Laine described the electrifying crowd reaction during his season debut as unforgettable, calling it «the most outrageous thing» he's ever experienced in his entire life:

I feel like we're really going to enjoy this player, and I sense he could truly establish himself in Montreal for the long term.

Do you think Kent Hughes should extend Patrik Laine's contract when it becomes possible?
