Patrik Laine Takes a Subtle Jab at St-Louis and the Canadiens Over His Ice Time
Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine doesn't hold back. He avoids clichés, speaks his mind, and always gives very interesting interviews.
His press conference today, live from the Four Nations Showdown, was no exception.
According to TVA Sports journalist Anthony Martineau, Laine took a subtle jab regarding his recent usage by Martin St-Louis and the Montreal Canadiens.
A subtle comment from Patrik Laine, aimed at Martin St-Louis and the Canadiens
Here's the statement in question, as reported by journalist Martineau.
Patrik Laine, passive-aggressive:
"It's clear that playing a lot of minutes here will help me. That hasn't happened often recently."
His tone and body language spoke volumes when he made that statement.
No one can accuse him of being hypocritical or not speaking his mind, and that's perfectly fine, especially since he's also willing to take some of the blame.
"Laine - somewhat arrogantly - made a point to remind everyone that he hasn't been playing much lately." - DLC
However, he admits that it's sometimes tough to play so few minutes in Montreal.
It's worth noting that over the past few games, Patrik Laine has been the least-used forward by Martin St-Louis at even strength.
In February, he averaged 11 minutes and 57 seconds of ice time per game, including power play and overtime minutes.
A strong performance at the Four Nations Showdown could truly benefit Laine, so we'll be watching this situation closely for you.
The 26-year-old forward has 18 points in 28 games this season with the Habs, including 12 goals, but things have indeed been more difficult for him lately.
