Rumor About Martin Necas is Confirmed as Pierre LeBrun Reports the Canadiens Made an Attempt

As you know, throughout the summer, numerous rumors linked forward Martin Necas to Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.

After all, the Canadiens were searching for a young top-6 forward on the trade market, Necas was at odds with the Hurricanes, and it truly seemed like his time there was over.

There was an opportunity for a trade.

Ultimately, both sides found common ground, and the rest is history.

Necas signed a two-year contract worth $6.5 million per season, and today, he's one of the best players in the entire National Hockey League, currently amassing an incredible 30 points in 18 games this season.

This translates to a pace of 137 points over a full season.

The rumors were indeed true.

The renowned insider mentioned that 28 teams made some form of inquiry in an attempt to acquire Necas, but two teams were clear favorites to land the young forward.

We're talking about the Montreal Canadiens and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Imagine if Kent Hughes had managed to acquire Martin Necas AND Patrik Laine in the same summer It would have been incredible for speeding up the rebuilding process.

It's quite obvious now that the young Hurricanes forward is no longer available on the trade market.
