The renowned Elliotte Friedman from Sportsnet has just reported that the Carolina Hurricanes made a huge trade offer for Ivan Demidov.

Clearly, the top prospect of the Montreal Canadiens was highly sought after, especially by the Canes.

The Carolina Hurricanes made a huge trade offer, involving Martin Necas, for young Ivan Demidov

See his exact words:

Friedman: "I think there were very serious conversations about a trade between Columbus and Carolina regarding the number 4 pick, I think the Blue Jackets made a contract offer to Necas with the Hurricanes' permission, obviously that didn't happen."

He adds that the Hurricanes wanted to draft Ivan Demidov.

This would have really hurt the Montreal Canadiens, but fortunately, all's well that ends well for Kent Hughes and his team.

If the Blue Jackets were negotiating a contract with Martin Necas, they were very close to accepting the trade and trading their 4th overall pick to Carolina. Wow.

Necas, 25, who can play as a center or winger, was a first-round pick in 2017.

He scored 53 points in 77 games this season (9 points in 11 playoff games) and had 71 points last season.

He has been linked to the Montreal Canadiens for several weeks, and ironically, his trade to the Columbus Blue Jackets could have completely ruined Kent Hughes's plans.

This is a story to follow because, as of this writing, Necas is still available on the trade market.
