BREAKING: Surprise announcement from the Devils and a disappointment for Jake Allen
We were eager to see when Jake Allen's first start with the New Jersey Devils would be, and many believed it would be tonight, on the big stage, live from Madison Square Garden.
However, the Devils are indeed sending a brand new goalie into the fray tonight, but it's not Jake Allen.
Ironically, Allen has been with the Devils longer than Kaapo Kahkonen (who was acquired by New Jersey a few hours after Allen), but it is the Kahkonen who gets the first vote of confidence.
The Devils' head coach, Travis Green, is giving Kahkonen the opportunity to take over the number one spot there.
Jake Allen in a new three-goalie situation
We were talking about it this morning, but for those who missed it, let's remember that Allen finds himself again (unfortunately for him) in a darn three-goalie situation with his new team.
The Devils will use Kaapo Kahkonen, Nico Daws, and Jake Allen to finish the season.
"Kaapo Kahkonen will make his debut with the Devils tonight at Madison Square Garden." - Dan Rosen
Kahkonen, 27 years old, has a record of 6-20-3 this season, with an average of 3.81 and a save percentage of 0.895. (0.898 in his career)
Allen, 33 years old, has a record of 6-12-3 this season, with an average of 3.65 and a save percentage of 0.892. (0.908 in his career)
More details to follow.
So, Jake Allen will have to wait again.
