Clearly in an attempt to try something new and to help him break through, the New York Rangers have made a change regarding Alexis Lafrenière. A significant change.
Employed as a left winger since the start of his young career, Lafrenière is now changing positions.
He will now be a right winger.
It might seem trivial, but for a high-level player, it makes a significant difference in terms of positioning and everything.
Imagine if Martin St-Louis switched Cole Caufield's wing; it would change everything.
In short, let's hope this change works for the 1st overall pick of the 2020 draft.
Lafrenière, 21 years old, accumulated 39 points in 81 games last season, already his third year in the league. (0 points in 7 playoff games)
He starts the 2023 training camp for his team on the 1st line, alongside Mika Zibanejad and none other than Chris Kreider.
See how Lafrenière reacted to these changes:
"Alexis Lafrenière, on the switch to right wing:
"I've always played on the left wing throughout my career, but you have to be able to play both, and I think for me, I can also be good playing on the right. I just have to adjust, and it's not a big deal, I'm just trying to get used to this major change."
It will be interesting to see if this will be beneficial for him. Interesting decision.
More details to follow.
