Things have indeed changed significantly since he took over the franchise. There was a major reshuffling in the hockey staff, and the downtown Ottawa arena project gained new momentum.
Although he's done a good job since purchasing the team, the new owner doesn't hide the fact that he's not enjoying his new role yet. That's what he admitted to Renaud Lavoie this Saturday, during his team's matchup against his former club at the Bell Centre. We recall that before buying the Sens, Andlauer was a minority owner of the Canadiens.
TVA Sports - "No, I'm not having fun" - Michael Andlauer
Since their Cinderella run in the 2017 playoffs, things have not gone well in Ottawa. So much so that the team began a rebuild that still doesn't seem to have peaked.
Every season starts with high hopes for the Sens. However, the results are often below expectations as the team doesn't seem able to play at the expected level.
Andlauer now trusts Steve Staios to steer the ship. He has not only given him the role of GM but also that of president of hockey operations. While Andlauer is in constant contact with his hockey man, Staios has full control over the management of the team.
It will be interesting to see if, after an eight-season playoff drought, the team can be competitive in a tough Atlantic Division. With teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, and Florida Panthers, breaking into the playoff picture will be difficult. Especially if they play as emotionlessly as they did Saturday night in Montreal.
And already, fans are not happy with how the team is playing.
It's worth noting that Michael Andlauer is a former shareholder of the Montreal Canadiens, who helped bring in a certain Kent Hughes. I wonder if he felt a bit jealous last night, watching the Habs in action at the Bell Centre against his own Sens.
