In recent weeks, following the relocation of the Coyotes to Salt Lake City and some rumors of NHL expansion, the topic has started to generate buzz again.
Even though the cities of Houston and Atlanta seem to have a head start in securing a new franchise, Quebec's candidacy remains an interesting option for NHL officials.
In fact, on this subject, as reported by the DLC website, the Premier of Quebec used radio waves to send a message to a certain Pierre Karl Péladeau.
During his appearance on Paul Arcand's show on 98.5, François Legault stated that the president of the Quebecor empire should surround himself with business partners and make a real offer to the NHL to bring the Nordiques back to Quebec.
We know that purchasing an NHL franchise will undoubtedly cost over a billion US dollars, and on his own, PKP probably doesn't have the means to put all that money on the table.
These are interesting remarks from the Premier, who firmly believes that the NHL has an interest in the Quebec market, as evidenced by the two preseason games of the Los Angeles Kings that will take place at the Centre Vidéotron next fall.
In conclusion, if Quebecor is still interested in bringing the Nordiques back, they will need to act quickly because the entry price will continue to rise over the years.
