Kent Hughes mentioned it in a press conference as part of his end-of-season review, but it will be an extremely important summer for the Canadiens.
According to the GM, it will be the most important of his career so far.
And the first major step of the summer will of course be the 2024 National draft, and the pick that the Habs will have to make with its own first-round selection. (a top 7 overall pick guaranteed)
To this effect, there is a future star player who has very clearly announced that he would love to be drafted and eventually sign his entry contract with Montreal!
Berkly Catton dreams of playing and signing for the Montreal Canadiens
Obviously, prospects don't close doors and they all say they would like to play for the CH, but Berkly Catton has gone even further.
In his case, it is clear that Montreal is probably his favorite destination. (By the way, I don't know why we don't talk more about him honestly)
Catton is, according to several experts, the 3rd or 4th best player in this 2024 draft.
See his statement:
Wow! He mentions that he could not see a better scenario than being drafted by the Tricolore.
"Playing in a market like Montreal's, I would absolutely love that! Just watching a Canadiens game on a weekday in January, it's always electric. I think as a young player, you couldn't ask for better honestly. I think it's a dream to experience that as a player!"
- Berkly Catton
His #1 scenario seems to be being selected and playing for the Montreal Canadiens. We love it.
And we're talking about a very special talent here.
If it weren't for Macklin Celebrini, Catton would absolutely be in the discussion for the 1st overall pick.
Catton, 5 feet 11, is an 18-year-old left-handed center who has amassed a very solid 116 points, including 54 goals, in 68 games this season in the WHL. An incredible production.
A name to remember, that one!
