Canadiens Player Had a Lot to Say About Sam Montembeault After Tough Loss Against Maple Leafs
Let's talk a bit about the goalies of the Montreal Canadiens, Jakub Dobes and Samuel Montembeault. We're witnessing a special phenomenon right now, as all the fans have fallen for Dobes (rightfully so), but this means some are quickly pushing Monty aside..
I came across a post this morning from the excellent Etienne Ferland, and I find it very insightful.
Maybe we should calm down about Montembeault. It's true he had a tough night, but let's not forget all the great games he's had this season. Let's take a deep breath, please. It's okay to like both Dobes AND Montembeault.
We need to stop overreacting to the result of a single game.
Samuel Montembeault had a very bad outing yesterday, and he knows it. It happens to every goalie to have a rough game. Many are forgetting that he contributed to the Canadiens' recent successful streak.
How he responds to this poor performance will be important, I agree.
In the meantime, we should calm down a bit before handing the #1 goalie title to a young player with only 4 NHL games under his belt!

It's true that he wasn't exceptional yesterday, but he has been many times since the start of the season, and the Canadiens wouldn't be where they are today without him. (in the playoff race)
I love Jakub Dobes and I hope he plays as much as possible, but I also believe that Samuel Montembeault is crucial to the present and future success of the Montreal Canadiens.
This is also the message recently shared by captain Nick Suzuki, live on television and in a press conference.
Nick Suzuki Defends Samuel Montembeault
During a recent media interview, captain Suzuki emphasized the importance of "Monty" to this team.
«Some have questioned his selection for Team Canada and I don't know why.
He's been excellent for us for a few years now.
He keeps us in the game during tough moments.
He's won many games for us last year and this season.
His talent is starting to be recognized.
People are going to love him if he gets the chance to play for Team Canada [during the Four Nations Tournament].»
- Nick Suzuki
Yes, Dobes is extraordinary, and yes, we are extremely happy to have him with the team, but we simply can't let this wave of excitement for the young goalie have a negative effect on Monty.
In today's NHL, it's crucial to have two excellent goalies, and I sincerely believe that's what the Canadiens have.
It's nice to see Suzuki publicly defend his goalie like this.
Go Monty! Go Dobes! Go Habs Go!
We can't wait to see the team bounce back tonight, against the New York Rangers.
