As we reported earlier, several experts had predicted that young forward Demidov would be chosen before Cayden Lindstrom, who was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets just before Kent Hughes took the stage with his hockey staff and Céline Dion to announce the selection of Demidov.
That said, with a bit of hindsight, it appears that the organization lucked out in this case, as Lindstrom, who had a worrying history of injuries, still hasn't played a single game this season with the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Ouch.
Will he ever overcome his back issues? We certainly hope so.
This is a major source of concern for the Blue Jackets organization, as top offensive prospects are rather rare, aside from Adam Fantilli.
As for Demidov, he's one of the best players on his team, SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL, and Canadiens fans are eagerly awaiting his arrival in Montreal after his season in Russia.
And let's not forget the trade between the two organizations last August, where Kent Hughes sent Jordan Harris to the Jackets in exchange for Patrik Laine and a second-round pick in the upcoming draft.
Unfortunately for the Canadiens, Patrik Laine will be sidelined for a few more weeks due to a knee injury. But despite his absence, it's fair to say that the Canadiens pulled a fast one on the Blue Jackets once again.
Jordan Harris has only played in half of his team's games, seven in total since the start of the season, and in his last game, he ended the night with a -3 rating against the Winnipeg Jets and was on the ice for just under 13 minutes, according to his coach.
