A young goaltender has suddenly announced his retirement from professional hockey at the age of 24

In the last few minutes and among the many trade announcements in the NHL, there was a major piece of news regarding young goalie Colton Point.

At the age of 24, the giant-sized goalie has just announced his retirement from professional hockey.

"Colton Point has announced his retirement from professional hockey at the age of 24, according to AHL Transactions.

Point was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the 2016 NHL Draft and played five professional seasons with the Texas Stars, Idaho Steelheads and Fort Wayne Komets."

Point, 24, is 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds. He was a bright prospect in front of the net, having represented Canada at the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championship. (gold medal)

He was the other goaltender on Team Canada Junior in 2018, along with Carter Hart.

Point finished the tournament with a 0.00 GAA and a 100% save percentage in one game.

He also earned multiple NCAA honours in 2018 after a stellar season (.944 save percentage in 33 games).
