We have finally just learned when Carter Hart, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, and Michael McLeod might start playing again
This is a story that has been developing extremely rapidly in the past few days, and there's more news now.
Now that the names are known and now that these players are sidelined from their NHL teams, the next question (on the hockey level) is as follows.
When will Carter Hart, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, and Michael McLeod be able to return to the NHL? Will they ever return?
Well, here's what we know about this at the moment.
"Do not expect Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube and Cal Foote to return to the NHL after being charged. The NHL is likely to place them on paid leave pending the disposition of the case. Depending on how the case resolves, the NHL could then discipline the players." - Eric Macramalla, legal expert
So there you have it! The four NHL players involved would therefore not return to the NHL until the end of the case.
No trial before 2026 for the five accused from Team Canada Junior 2018
Journalist Rick Westhead, who has been doing incredible work in this case, spoke with several lawyers who specialize in the matter, and they all suggested that it would be very surprising to see the trial begin before 2026 at the earliest.
We can therefore conclude that Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, and Cal Foote will not be able to play in the NHL until (at the very least) the 2026-27 season.
