I believe we can all agree that Kent Hughes is generally doing an excellent job since his arrival as the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens.

He has many good moves (already) to his credit, but he also has some missed opportunities.

Some will talk about the trade with the Nashville Preds during the most recent draft (Yaroslav Askarov and 15th overall pick for 5th overall pick), but there's another one that comes to mind.

Could Eeli Tolvanen Have Been Acquired by the Canadiens for Free?

That's what could have really happened.

While the Nashville Preds (again them) caused a huge surprise by placing Tolvanen on waivers, many fans and experts of the Montreal Canadiens were calling for his acquisition.

His potential is so high!

Ultimately, the Canadiens ignored him for a reason that is still hard to grasp to this day.

« The Habs had the luxury of claiming Eeli Tolvanen off waivers on December 12, 2022.

A very talented forward drafted in the 1st round, aged 23 at the time. They passed.

The Kraken did not. And Tolvanen has 54 points in 89 games since then.

Too bad! » - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

It's a shame, especially since the CH could really use a Tolvanen right now.

Tolvanen, 24 years old, has accumulated 30 points in 49 games this season with the Seattle Kraken (13 goals) and he is really starting to blossom.

Imagine what he's worth on the trade market today!
