Journalist Pierre LeBrun has indeed made an interesting statement about the Montreal Canadiens, in connection with young forward Ridly Greig.

Greig is a player with a role very similar to that of Jake Evans, but with the Ottawa Senators, and he has just signed a brand-new contract.

Can his contract therefore serve as a good comparison for Jake Evans' upcoming contract in Montreal?

This is exactly what Pierre LeBrun addressed, and he provided some very interesting new information.

Ridly Greig's contract: A good comparison for Jake Evans' upcoming contract?

Essentially, he explains that even though Evans and Greig are quite similar players, there is one major difference.

The first is on track to become an unrestricted free agent (UFA), while the second was set to become a restricted free agent (RFA).

LeBrun explains that this makes a big difference.

«When you talk to agents and teams, they try to separate contracts into these two groups.

That doesn't mean you can't look at his (Greig's) contract, because the role on the team is still similar between the two players.»

- Pierre LeBrun

Greig, aged 22, was a first-round pick by the Ottawa Senators in 2020 and has 13 points in 41 games this season.

He has just signed a four-year contract with an annual value of $3.25 million. (26 points last season)

Evans, aged 28, was a seventh-round pick by the Montreal Canadiens in 2014 and has 23 points in 44 games this season. (28 points last season)
