One Big Rule Has Changed for Tonight's Final Between Canada and USA and Details are Revealed
Many of you are already asking what will happen if tonight's game between Canada and the United States goes to overtime.
Here's the answer.
As reported by Anthony Marcotte (BPM Sports) and Chris Johnston (TSN), please note that the rules have changed and are not the same as what we saw during the preliminary games of the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Here are the rules if the game between Canada and the United States requires overtime tonight
That, and a few other interesting notes.
"A few notes from the 4 Nations Championship:
- If overtime is necessary, it will be played in the same format as the Stanley Cup Playoffs: 5-on-5, with 20-minute periods until we have a winner.
- The winning team receives a trophy, gold medals, and a cash prize.
- MVP is selected by a panel of 12 broadcasters."
And the post from the excellent Anthony Marcotte:
By the way, if tonight's game goes to overtime, NHL playoff rules will apply: 20-minute 5-on-5 periods until a winner is decided. We could be in for a late night!
We can't wait! Tonight, we could see a new Golden Goal hero emerge.
The opening faceoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM, in what is one of the most anticipated hockey games in recent years.
In preparation for this much anticipated game, it's worth noting that Jon Cooper and team Canada made an interesting lineup change.
I personally believe that Canada can come out victorious in this final, but for that to happen, we will need a strong performance from our top players, and most importantly, a solid performance from goaltender Jordan Binnington.
