Former Montreal Canadiens forward, Steve Bégin, has just made a sad announcement.

Through social media, he announced that he has declared bankruptcy.

Here is an excerpt from his official statement, as transcribed by TVA Sports.

«The civil engineering company in which I was advised to invest significant sums of money since 2013 has gone bankrupt, which has had negative repercussions on my financial situation and, consequently, also caused my own bankruptcy.»

«What I am sharing with you this morning, I do so with a mix of humility and regret. Never did I think I would face such a situation, but I have been dealing with it for several months now. Those who know me well know that I am a positive, honest, and joyful person, always ready to help others.»

The company in question is Nobesco, according to TVA Sports.

«Trust is usually the foundation of all relationships. However, I have learned the hard way that this term should never be taken for granted,» the former hockey player also stated. «In this venture, I placed my trust, and unfortunately, today, I am facing the consequences.»

«I find this experience very trying, disappointing, and especially painful for me and my loved ones, but as always, I will continue to push forward to achieve great things despite this ordeal.»
