Waivers: Hughes and the Canadiens Could Claim Former First-Round Pick for Free
We have some action in the waivers on this Saturday, for the first time in a few days, and it's indeed an interesting opportunity for Kent Hughes.
This is a fairly recent first-round pick that is currently available completely free of charge, and we are talking here about an offensive defenseman.
Ty Smith is placed on waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes
Here's another player who could certainly be claimed by 2:00 PM tomorrow. (just like forward Arthur Kaliyev was earlier this week)
«Ty Smith (CAR) placed on waivers.»
- Elliotte Friedman, Sportsnet
Smith, 24 years old, is a 5 foot 11, 180-pound defenseman.
He was the 17th overall pick by the New Jersey Devils in 2018 (1st round) and has accumulated nearly 50 points in 131 career games in the NHL.
In the AHL, he has 77 points in 115 games, which is solid production for a young defenseman.
Smith also posted 59 points in 46 games, 69 points in 57 games, and 73 points in 69 games during his last three seasons with the Spokane Chiefs in the WHL.
When talking about players with intriguing potential to explore, Ty Smith absolutely fits that description.
Upon his arrival in the NHL, he was genuinely seen as a future highly productive defenseman in the league.
In the shorter term, he has accumulated 2 points in 8 games this season with the Carolina Hurricanes, with a positive +1 rating.
A situation to follow.
