For the past few days, we've been keeping a close eye on the Patrik Laine situation.
The Montreal Canadiens forward has been absent for over a week, missing the team's last four games due to what the organization describes as «flu-like symptoms.»
Today, just hours before the game against the Dallas Stars, TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie had an update on Laine.
This is another positive sign regarding his availability tonight, but we'll have to wait and see.
We even have footage:
The Canadiens later announced that the official statuses of Patrik Laine and David Savard will be confirmed around 5:00 PM today.
«We won't have a clear idea of Patrik Laine and David Savard's statuses until around 5 PM tonight, when head coach Martin St-Louis addresses the media.»
- David Calabretta, The Fourth Period
This is the key update we'll be watching closely.
Considering Michael Pezzetta barely played last night (just 3 minutes and 5 seconds), Laine's return would be a huge boost.
The team faces a tough schedule, and fatigue is inevitable, so playing with just 11 forwards again tonight would be a real challenge.
There was an unexpected issue with the Montreal Canadiens' flight, and this has added yet another obstacle for Martin St-Louis' squad.
The Canadiens currently sit at 43 points in 41 games, just one point shy of a playoff spot.
Definitely a situation to monitor.
