If officials have been the topic of discussion since the beginning of this confrontation, the mental game between the two teams has also made headlines. Recently, Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe openly mentioned that he had found the weakness of Lightning's excellent goalkeeper, Andrei Vasilevskiy.
Not only did Keefe say it publicly to play with the heads of opposing players, including that of the excellent Russian goalkeeper, but the coach also publicly named this weakness. According to Keefe, Andrei Vasilevskiy is particularly vulnerable to long-distance shots when there is traffic in front of him.
However, this information seems to be well-known within the Lightning team. During the intermission of the last game between the two teams, Derek Lalonde, who was the former assistant coach of Tampa Bay and current head coach of the Detroit Red Wings, confirmed it.
A certainly worrying statement for Lightning players and fans.
It goes to show that the loss of Ryan McDonagh during the last offseason and Victor Hedman during this series have hurt the goalkeeper. Not having these giants in front of him who clear his view for nearly 30 minutes per game is certainly destabilizing for him.
It will be interesting to see if the Leafs can take advantage of this knowledge on Thursday night during the 5th game of the series they lead 3-1. However, it should be remembered that Toronto has become adept at deflating in these situations, as seen against the Habs in 2021....
