Vancouver's mayor, Ken Sim, just caused disappointment by announcing the cancellation of the large gatherings planned for the Canucks' games.

At least, that's what PuckEmpire page reports.

As is the case in each of the cities with teams currently in the NHL playoffs, there were large gatherings planned in Vancouver to watch games #3 and #4 of the Canucks (against the Nashville Predators).

However, everything has been canceled for now.

"There will be no public gatherings to watch the Canucks' playoff games in Vancouver due to security concerns.".

Digging a bit deeper, we found this:

"Citing the riots of 1994 and 2011, Ken Sim stated that the focus had to be on security..

Thus, it would be due to fears of disturbances and riots.

We also found a recent statement from Mayor Sim, mentioning that the city will try to find a solution.

They still want to find a way to organize events, but not at the risk of security.

They are thus working on a safer alternative.

Details to follow.

The series between the Vancouver Canucks and the Predators is currently tied 1-1, and the series now moves to Nashville for games #3 and #4.

The Canucks are without their star goalie, Thatcher Demko.
