Gary Bettman makes a historic announcement during the playoffs
The commissioner of the National Hockey League, Gary Bettman, has just made a historic announcement in the midst of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
While many analysts mention that he must be disappointed to see a Canadian team in the Stanley Cup finals, and while Quebec Nordiques fans hope to see him fail, here is a historic announcement.
The 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs are the most watched since 1996 in the United States, a historic rise for Gary Bettman
And they are the most watched in over five years in North America. Wow.
Bettman seems to be succeeding, unfortunately some would say.
"The 2024 playoffs are the most watched first three rounds in the United States since 1996, while the 2024 conference finals have seen a 34% increase year-over-year in North America." - NHL
These are historic numbers, and certainly numbers that will make Gary Bettman smile greatly.
This is nothing to convince him that the NHL needs more Canadian teams, and that his league needs a team in Quebec.
Gary Bettman's goal is to increase the popularity of hockey in the United States, that seems quite clear, and he is succeeding.
This won't help bringing the Quebec Nordiques back in the short term.
We imagine that Gary Bettman will really prioritize destinations like Atlanta, Houston, Kansas City, and even a return to Arizona.
Details will follow.
