For obvious reasons, in Toronto, William Nylander's name constantly comes up in trade rumors.

Let's remember that the Maple Leafs apparently won't have the money to re-sign him next summer, and they risk losing him "for nothing."

So it would be logical for them to trade him soon.

On this topic, both in Montreal and elsewhere in the NHL, Nylander's name has been linked to the Canadiens for a potential trade.

Trade Caufield for Nylander?

In the past few minutes, a Toronto journalist, Michael Traikos, has suggested that the potential return in a trade involving William Nylander would be huge.

In connection with the Habs, see what he said:

"[In case of a trade] Canadiens' fans won't like the return! I believe that the names Caufield, Slafkovsky, and Guhle would be in the discussions." - Traikos

If this is indeed the price to pay, we can forget it right away. (for a trade)

However, if Nylander indeed becomes a free agent and is free to go wherever, that's when the Montreal Canadiens would have a real chance to acquire him, without obviously giving up Caufield, Slafkovsky, or Guhle.

That will never happen. Kent Hughes will never do that.

Journalist Traikos, who has covered the Maple Leafs for the National Post, added:

"Nylander is a dynamic player, with a good stride and who can score. But sometimes, he can disappear for two weeks and become invisible."

Also remember that Nylander would want to sign a contract for 9 to 10 million dollars a year.

A story for Montreal Canadiens' fans to follow? Yes, but not this season. It will be more of a story to watch next summer at the opening of the free-agent market.
