The rumor has been circulating for a few days, and some Montreal Canadiens fans are starting to believe that Corey Perry is going to change his address, but now, it comes from a very reliable source.
According to insider Elliotte Friedman, of Sportsnet, all signs indicate that Perry will become an unrestricted free agent, that he will be free as the wind, and that he will leave the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Good news for Canadiens fans
This indeed opens the door for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens to sign Perry under contract.
Let's remember that according to a specialized firm, Perry is expected to normally sign a one-year contract with a total value of $800,000.
At this price, on the fourth line and to guide the young players, would you do it?
Friedman didn't mention the Canadiens, but knowing how much Perry has continued to inquire about what's happening in Montreal for the past two years, it definitely seems to be an option.
Perry has even stayed in touch with several young players on the team, like a certain Cole Caufield.
Therefore, we have reasons to believe that if Perry does indeed leave Tampa Bay, his most probable and logical destination could well be Montreal.
