However, let's be realistic, it would be very surprising if the two local athletes joined the Canadiens at the same time, unless you're a GM in a simulated league or playing the popular video game NHL from EA Sports.
But now a scenario straight out of a Hollywood movie has been proposed by two pundits on BPM Sports.
As reported by Marco Normandin, from Habsolumentfan.com, Georges Laraque and Maxime Van Houte have planned a scenario in which Kent Hughes could get his hands on both Lafrenière and Dubois at the next NHL draft to be held in Nashville next June.
Here it is:
Firstly, offer the Florida Panthers' first round pick plus one or two B quality prospects to the Winnipeg Jets in return for Pierre-Luc Dubois, taking into account that they currently don't have the upper hand in negotiations.
And secondly, offer the Canadiens' first pick to the New York Rangers, for Alexis Lafrenière in a one-for-one trade.
Well, we must admit that this scenario, straight out of the movie Draft Day starring Kevin Costner, is unlikely to happen but if we analyze it coolly, it could make sense to try a real blockbuster move by acquiring Alexis Lafrenière.
After all, Kent Hughes took us all by surprise at the last draft held in Montreal by bringing Kirby Dach to the Canadiens and his career has taken a whole new direction.
But to be more realistic, it would still be surprising if the Rangers gave up on number 13 so quickly as after all, he is only 21 years old and could break out at any moment.
