We are approaching mid-August, and several restricted free agents are still waiting to sign a deal with their team. This leads to many rumors as to whether any of them will receive a offer sheet or be traded.

Quebecer Alexis Lafrenière finds himself at the center of these speculations, despite his best efforts. The first overall pick of the 2020 draft is still without a contract, and his name continues to circulate in rumors, while the Rangers currently have only $2.278 million to offer him under the salary cap, according to CapFriendly.

An Important Development

We have learned, however, that negotiations are going well between the two parties. The main party involved, eager to move on, does not seem worried that it will all be resolved very soon.

"Yes, it's coming. My agent and the Rangers are in discussion, and I hope it will be settled in the next few weeks. I love playing there; it would be super cool to continue.

That's the National League. Sometimes you have to be patient, and it takes a bit more time. I'm really looking forward to re-signing." - Alexis Lafrenière

We can clearly forget about the offer sheet that some journalists predicted at the beginning of the summer.

In 81 games last season, the forward accumulated 16 goals and 23 assists for a total of 39 points. While he may not have had a career start that met expectations, it is not a disaster. He still accumulated 91 points in 216 games in the big league, adding 9 points in 27 playoff games.

The experience he gained from these difficulties can only be positive for the future. We should also not neglect the contribution of the Rangers' new coach, Peter Laviolette, who could very well give a breath of fresh air to the young man.

For CH fans who would like to see Lafrenière with their club, here's a photo you will really like. The latter, who participated in the Bergeron/Gagné classic in Québec last Thursday night, wore the blue-white-red uniform as he played with the Canadiens' team! Take off the Rangers' socks, and it's not so bad, right?
