Most informants (with solid sources) seem convinced that Kent Hughes will trade his center player for a first-round pick.
We're talking about a first-round pick that will obviously not be top-15. (probably between 22nd and 32nd rank)
Is it really worth losing such a good player for a late first-round pick? That's the debate right now and we're far from convinced.
After all, let's remember that Monahan is only 29 years old, he himself is a 6th overall pick (1st round) from 2013 and he gathered 82 points (34 goals) not so long ago.
He has already been an NHL star player and he's not far from becoming one again.
However, the renowned Elliotte Friedman, from Sportsnet, just made an EXTREMELY interesting statement that gives us a lot of hope.
What if Kent Hughes traded Monahan at a high price, only to re-sign him later this summer? It's a real possibility and it would be incredible!
Imagine that!
- Kent Hughes acquires a first-round pick from the Calgary Flames to get Sean Monahan.
- Kent Hughes acquires ANOTHER first-round pick from another team to trade Sean Monahan in a few weeks.
- Kent Hughes goes back to get Sean Monahan on the free agent market next summer.
It would be huge and it would be a masterstroke from the former player agent. If Monahan is traded, let's not lose hope, then! He loves Montreal!
