With a team that is not getting any younger, but still has excellent potential with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kristopher Letang, Dubas wants to help make a push to win another championship with this core.
The Penguins' GM is reportedly in the thick of the race to acquire the latest Norris Trophy recipient, Erik Karlsson.
The San Jose Sharks are currently very active in trying to trade the 32-year-old veteran defenseman, while the main party involved reportedly asked to be traded before the next season.
Sensing an opportunity to add the Swede who just finished the last season with a production of 25 goals and 101 points, Dubas reportedly made a monster offer to complete a trade for him.
Here's the offer in question which was revealed by a Pittsburgh insider:
Wow! With P-O Joseph, who was a 1st round pick in 2017, and who is starting to establish himself in the NHL, this would be the equivalent of three 1st round picks that Dubas would be willing to pay to add Karlsson to his roster.
The Sharks would however retain a portion of the defenseman's remaining contract, in order to reduce the impact on the salary cap from $11M to $9M for the Penguins, and this for the remaining four years of his current agreement.
This will therefore be a matter to watch in the coming weeks.
