Last-minute major development on a trade involving Jeff Petry and the Dallas Stars
Since the recent acquisition of Jeff Petry by the Montreal Canadiens, he has been involved in many trade rumors, but there is little concrete information circulating.
But now, we finally have some!
According to information from the renowned Chris Johnston of TSN, the Dallas Stars would be a preferred destination for Petry, and they would be interested in concluding a trade with Montreal in this regard.
The Stars have often shown interest in Petry's services, and now that he's less expensive, he becomes even more attractive to them.
We know that his wife (Julie Petry) is from the area, and she would certainly be happy if this transaction were to happen.
However, to conclude the trade and for it to work in terms of the salary cap, Dallas will obviously have to trade their forward Mason Marchment.
An Identified Target!
Marchment has a contract for the next three seasons that will bring him 4.5 million dollars. He accumulated 47 points in 54 games in 2022 and 31 points in 68 games last season.
He is a 28-year-old power forward. (6 feet 4 and 215 pounds)
Note that the Stars have their first two picks in 2024.
Would a trade of this kind be conceivable for them?
TO MONTREAL:
Mason Marchment
1st pick 2024 from the Stars**
TO DALLAS:
Jeff Petry with retained salary
Note that this 1st round pick in 2024 would be conditional and could become a 2nd round pick in 2024 if, for example, the Stars do not reach the Western final.
