This was announced by the team and it is obviously major for them.
To remedy the situation, GM Ron Francis recalled goaltender Chris Driedger, but it's agreed that a combination of him and the Kraken's other goaltender, Joey Daccord, is not necessarily the tandem of a Stanley Cup-contending team.
That said, as Charles-Alexis Brisebois reports from the site Danslescoulisses.com, a short-term solution for the Kraken could very well be found with the Canadiens, as the columnist suggests that Kent Hughes should give a call to his counterpart in Seattle.
This is not the first time the name of the Canadiens' goaltender has been associated. Remember during the Kraken's expansion draft in the summer of 2021, a certain Carey Price was available but Ron Francis had chosen to ignore number 31.
That said, to get back to what interests us here, the Kraken will certainly need reinforcement in goal because after all, the team is only three points away from a playoff spot at the time of writing these lines.
Could Jake Allen be an interesting target for Ron Francis?
Certainly, because he represents a good insurance policy and his experience could be beneficial for the Kraken, and Kent Hughes would resolve his famous goaltending trio.
However, as Allen is still under contract until 2025 and Philipp Grubauer is signed long-term with an annual salary of $5.9 million, it would cost nearly $10 million for an Allen-Grubauer tandem, which is quite expensive.
It will be interesting to follow the evolution of this case during the absence of the German goaltender, and it's more than time for the goaltending trio to end in Montreal.
