Despite a clear improvement in the team this season, the Canadiens are still in rebuilding mode, and the management is working hard to make the organization competitive again as soon as possible.
But we could see another magical move from Kent Hughes after the season.
As reported by Jean-Christophe Matte of Fanadiens.com, the Canadiens' general manager was a guest on the Hockey 360 show on RDS, and when asked if he planned to acquire another first-round pick for the upcoming draft, let's just say his answer will please many Canadiens fans.
Wow! A very interesting statement about a possible trade to come. We can count on him to try to make this transaction happen!
As we know, this year's draft is being touted as exceptional, with a potential crop of players that could become one of the best in NHL history.
However, to acquire a first-round pick, you have to give up something significant in return. Could Kent Hughes finally manage to trade defenseman Joel Edmundson? It's possible, as if it weren't for his injury, number 44 would probably have packed his bags for another team. However, it is unknown if Edmundson will still have such value after the season as he will be playing his last year of his contract.
The name of Josh Anderson has also been mentioned in recent weeks, and he too could be sacrificed by the organization in order to acquire a first-round pick in the upcoming draft.
But with this statement, let's just say that the Canadiens' GM is setting the bar high for the hopes of the team's fans, and if Kent Hughes intends to be as spectacular as he was in his first draft, we'll be in for quite a session in Nashville next June.
