As you know, Montreal Canadiens forward Christian Dvorak's season is unfortunately over and his name will be placed on the long-term injury list.

With eight weeks to go until the NHL trade deadline, this could change everything for GM Kent Hughes and could open up new, profitable long-term opportunities.

Obviously, this is bad news for Martin St-Louis, but why not "take advantage" of it? This has just been put forward by the renowned journalist David Pagnotta.

The loss of Dvorak adds $4.45 million to the Canadiens' salary cap and, in today's NHL, that's huge! (and it's very valuable)

Could Kent Hughes add a first-round pick while taking on a bad salary like he did when acquiring Sean Monahan from the Flames?

It's definitely a possibility.

A three-team trade?

This could also be done as part of a three-team transaction, as Hughes did this summer with the Erik Karlsson deal, involving Pittsburgh and San Jose.

With information from Pagnotta, don't be surprised if Kent Hughes acquires, in the coming weeks, a large salary and a first-round pick.

If this is Kent Hughes' last trade deadline as a seller, might as well make the most of it!

It would look like this.

TO MONTREAL:

- A bad salary
- A first-round pick

In exchange for future considerations.

Or like this.

TO MONTREAL:

- 50% of a player's retained salary
- A first or second-round pick

Stay tuned over the next few weeks! Do you think it would be good for Kent Hughes to use this cap space?
