Major trade proposal between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames: it would be a big move by Kent Hughes
Even though the Canadiens drafted three goaltenders in the last draft, the goaltending depth in the organization remains precarious.
One goaltender who has excelled in the American Hockey League and has been linked to the Canadiens in various trade rumors is Dustin Wolf.
The young goaltender, selected in the seventh round by the Calgary Flames, had an outstanding season in 2022-2023, winning 38 games out of 50 with an excellent goals-against average of 2.09 and a save percentage of 0.931.
With these impressive numbers, there's no doubt that he is the goaltender of the future for the Flames. However, Jacob Markstrom, who is still under contract with the Flames for three more seasons with a salary of $6 million per year, could block his path in the short and medium term.
Could Kent Hughes be tempted to call the Flames to discuss a possible trade?
It is known that the two have a good relationship. The Twitter account of Hockey Night in Montreal has made an intriguing suggestion involving both teams:
In Montreal: Dustin Wolf and a 2024 third-round pick
In Calgary: 2025 first-round pick (CGY), 2024 second-round pick, and Sean Farrell It is indeed a bold proposal that doesn't have unanimous support among Canadiens' fans, with 54% of internet users not in favor of such a trade.
Since it's just a suggestion and not based on any solid rumor, the likelihood of it happening is rather slim. However, speculation and hypothetical scenarios are common and enjoyable among sports fans.
